The Club Kids: Creatures of the Night
Final Major Project
The objective of this editorial zine is to tell the story of the New York City Club Kids in a way that aesthetically represents them, exploring some of the aspects of this underground sub culture that still inspires us to this day. The Club Kids pushed boundaries of gender, politics, society and culture, having a particularly big impact on queer culture. Bringing light to this sub culture and telling their story today could educate a new generation on this particular group of trailblazers, introducing the Club Kids to a whole new audience.
Amcan y gwaith golygyddol hwn yw adrodd hanes y New York City Club Kids mewn ffordd sy’n eu cynrychioli’n esthetig, gan archwilio rhai o’r agweddau ar yr isddiwylliant tanddaearol hwn sy’n dal i’n hysbrydoli hyd heddiw. Roedd y Club Kids yn gwthio ffiniau rhywedd, gwleidyddiaeth, cymdeithas a diwylliant, gan gael effaith arbennig o fawr ar y diwylliant hoyw. Gallai bwrw goleuni ar yr isddiwylliant hwn ac adrodd eu stori heddiw addysgu cenhedlaeth newydd am y grŵp arbennig hwn o arloeswyr, gan gyflwyno’r Club Kids i gynulleidfa gwbl newydd.





The Frauhaus
Criticality
Using the iconic shapes of the Bauhaus and their assigned colours, I have created 10 posters that aim to empower women. I have utilised the shapes of a triangle, square and circle to create imagery associated with a feminine form. Ive taken a satirical approach when creating these posters, highlighting the misogyny on the Bauhaus, flipping it on its head, and only creating designs that display female imagery. Ive also changed the name to “Frauhaus” a play on words of the original, with “Frau” meaning “Mrs”, again making it more feminine. I hope to empower women with these posters by making it all about them, rather than the opposite which was the case when the school was open.
Gan ddefnyddio siapiau eiconig y Bauhaus a’u lliwiau penodedig, rydw i wedi creu 10 poster sydd â’r nod o rymuso menywod. Rydw i wedi defnyddio siapiau triongl, sgwâr a chylch i greu delweddau sy’n gysylltiedig â ffurf fenywaidd. Rydw i wedi mabwysiadu agwedd ddychanol wrth greu’r posteri hyn, gan dynnu sylw at wreig-gasineb y Bauhaus, a’i droi ar ei ben, a chreu dyluniadau sy’n arddangos delweddau benywaidd yn unig. Rydw i wedi newid yr enw i “Frauhaus” hefyd gan chwarae ar eiriau’r gwreiddiol, gyda “Frau” yn golygu “Mrs”, gan ei wneud yn fwy benywaidd eto. Rwy’n gobeithio grymuso menywod gyda’r posteri hyn drwy ganolbwyntio’n llwyr arnyn nhw, yn hytrach na’r gwrthwyneb a oedd yn wir pan oedd yr ysgol ar agor.
